Requirements

No sale or transfer of title of any structure or unit until a certificate of continued occupancy is obtained
Inspection by the Code Enforcement Officer (the Tax Assessor may come along to update property records) to confirm the home complies with all Borough ordinances
The certificate states the property may continue to be used as before and lists the number and designation of the units
Not required for new construction if the original CO was issued within 18 months of the transfer
Existing lawful tenants may stay, but the transfer cannot close until the CCO is obtained

Smoke detector on each level of the dwelling, including basements (not attics or crawl spaces)
Smoke detector and carbon monoxide alarm outside each separate sleeping area, within 10 feet of all bedrooms
At least one carbon monoxide detector on each level of the building
