Requirements
  • All construction permits issued must be closed out before the inspection
  • Legible house numbers clearly visible from the street
  • Sump pumps not piped into the sanitary sewer system and discharged properly
  • Boilers, hot water heaters and water softeners must have had the required permits
  • Front door dead bolts keyless on the interior side
  • Damaged or uneven public sidewalks and aprons must be replaced (permit required)
  • Smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector and portable fire extinguisher installed (code and form still list the extinguisher)
  • Secondary power sources (generators, solar, batteries) need a printed CAUTION: MULTIPLE SOURCES OF POWER label within 18 inches of the main panel and the meter
  • Monitored or low-voltage alarm systems must pass an alarm test with monitoring active

Timing
Submit the form no less than 20 days before the closing date. The Borough inspects within 10 business days after the application is complete and permits are verified closed.

The application form says 90 days from issuance; the Borough code (Section 135-3, amended 2024) says six months

Smoke and CO alarm certificate

Requirements
  • Smoke detectors UL approved, 10-year sealed battery, on each level including the basement, and within 10 feet of each sleeping area entrance or inside each sleeping area; hardwired alarms must be replaced with hardwired
  • Two-family homes also need alarms in common stairwells and hallways, outside each doorway, in the main living area, and at the front of the basement stairs
  • Carbon monoxide detectors within 10 feet of each sleeping area entrance or inside each sleeping area; the form says CO detectors older than 5 years must be replaced
  • All detectors must be less than 10 years old
  • Fire extinguisher 2A:10B:C, under 10 pounds, within 10 feet of the kitchen, with bracket, dated or tagged within 12 months (form still lists it)
  • Secondary power source label within 18 inches of the main electrical panel and the meter, if applicable
  • Central or low-voltage alarm systems need a passing alarm test and active monitoring
