- Requirements
- All outstanding permits must be closed before the CCO inspection can be scheduled; applications are returned if there are open permits or violations
- Inspection of walls, floors, ceilings, stairs and rails; no illegal apartments, illegally rented rooms or work done without permits
- Smoke alarm on each level including the basement and outside each sleeping area (10-year sealed battery units, hardwired not replaced with battery); photoelectric if a bedroom is within 10 feet of the kitchen
- Carbon monoxide alarm within 10 feet of the sleeping areas when there is a fuel-burning appliance or attached garage
- ABC fire extinguisher within 10 feet of the kitchen (form still lists it)
- House number at least 3 inches high in contrasting colors near the front door; no keyed deadbolt inside; bedroom egress windows open easily; handrails on 4 or more steps; bathroom fan where there is no window; water heater relief pipe within 6 inches of the floor
- Central-station fire alarm systems must be tested before the inspection with a test report
- Resale-only (buyer not occupying): buyer's notarized letter; bank-owned: copy of contract or notarized bank letter

- The City calls to schedule an inspection within 10 business days of receiving a complete application; the certificate is emailed 2 business days after a passed inspection.

Required- Requirements
- Smoke alarms on each level including the basement and outside each sleeping area; 10-year sealed battery units, or hardwired; alarms over 10 years old replaced
- Carbon monoxide alarm within 10 feet of each sleeping area when there is a fuel-burning appliance or attached garage (battery, hardwired or plug-in)
- Fire extinguisher 2A:10B:C, no more than 10 pounds, within 10 feet of the kitchen, mounted, serviced and tagged within 12 months or with a recent receipt (CCO form still lists it)
