- Requirements
- Submit the CCO application and the separate Fire (smoke and carbon monoxide) application together, each with its own check or money order
- All permits must be closed; work done without construction or zoning permits (water heaters, furnaces, AC, decks, sheds, fences, finished basements) must be permitted and closed before the CCO is issued
- Well or septic properties need Health Department approval
- All utilities on; house number 6 inches high, visible from the street and contrasting; property in good condition and free of debris
- Windows working with no broken seals and with screens; no double-keyed deadbolts or slide bolts on entry doors; interior doors working
- Handrails on 4 or more risers; appliances, sinks, tubs, showers and toilets working; bathroom vent fan if no operable window
- GFCI outlets within 6 feet of all sinks; outlets, switches and junction boxes covered
- Solid core wood or steel, 20-minute rated door from an attached garage; garage door opener and sump pump on their own outlets (no extension cords)
- Metal dryer vent; washer discharges into drainage; sump pump discharges outside, not into the sewer
- Pool gates self-closing and self-latching; pool running or closed
- If the home will be rented and was built before 1978, a lead-safe certificate is required (rentals only)

- The ordinance says the certificate is granted or denied within 10 days of the application. The inspection can be scheduled only after both the CCO and fire applications are submitted with payment.

Smoke and CO alarm certificate
Required- Requirements
- Working smoke alarms on every level including the basement, and within 10 feet of all bedrooms
- Smoke and CO alarms replaced every 10 years; homes built before 1981 with only battery alarms need 10-year sealed battery units
- Carbon monoxide alarm within 10 feet of all bedrooms in the hallway (two if bedrooms are more than 10 feet apart)
- Fire extinguisher in the kitchen, 2A-10B:C, 10 lb or less, tagged or newly bought, mounted no higher than 5 feet (form still lists it; the Township checklist now says this applies to apartments in rental complexes only)
