- Requirements
- Inspection for fitness for habitation under Borough Code §116-8 before the home is sold
- Any outstanding permit issues must be closed; Zoning Officer certifies compliance
- Smoke detectors on each level and within 10 feet of sleeping quarters, working and under 10 years old; 10-year sealed battery units; AC powered units cannot be swapped for battery units
- Carbon monoxide detectors within 10 feet of sleeping quarters, working, under 7 years old (standalone) or 10 years (combination)
- Monitored fire alarm systems must be made available for testing, with a certificate of inspection
- Checklist items include working doors and keyless deadbolts, GFCI in bathrooms, covered electrical boxes and plates, 4-inch house numbers, handrails on stairs over four risers, unbroken operable windows, safe sidewalk/driveway/apron/foundation, heating system and flue, water heater overflow pipe, metal dryer vent, minimum 60 amp service, sump pump on a dedicated receptacle

- 10-year sealed battery single station smoke alarms (ANSI/UL 217); AC powered alarms from original construction or rehabilitation stay AC powered
- Carbon monoxide detectors within 10 feet of sleeping quarters, working, under 7 years old (standalone) or 10 years (combination)
- No fire extinguisher for owner sales; the code lists extinguishers for rental and apartment units only
