Requirements
  • Inspection of the whole property against the Borough's Certificate for Sales and Rentals checklist (exterior, interior, bedroom size and egress)
  • Smoke alarms tested by push button; 10-year sealed battery alarms; detectors over 10 years old are not accepted; hardwired, interconnected alarms in newer homes
  • Carbon monoxide alarms outside each sleeping area where there are fuel-burning appliances or an attached garage; not older than 5 years or past the maker's expiration date
  • Fire extinguisher, minimum 2A:10B:C, permanently mounted within 10 feet of the kitchen and serviced/tagged in the past 12 months or newly bought (form still lists it)
  • Monitored alarm systems need an affidavit that the system is maintained and works
  • Owner certifies the home meets zoning and no rubbish, debris or bulk garbage will be left before the new occupancy
  • Application lists the closing/occupancy date, owners, any mortgage holders, and any deck, fence, shed, pool, garage or finished basement

  • Smoke alarms on each level per the year built (battery minimum before 1978; hardwired with battery backup later; interconnected and in each bedroom for 1991 and newer); battery alarms must be 10-year sealed
  • Carbon monoxide alarms outside each sleeping area where there are fuel-burning appliances or an attached garage
  • Fire extinguisher, minimum 2A:10B:C, mounted within 10 feet of the kitchen (form still lists it)

Sea Girt Fire Bureau (local enforcing agency for Brielle under a shared service); smoke/CO items are inspected with the Brielle Certificate for Sale
