Visible house number (and unit numbers on each unit)
Doors open and close properly; double-key deadbolts not permitted
Exterior wiring in good condition and GFI outlets near water
Converted garages may need permits; garage separation needs drywall and a fire-rated or solid door
Pools safeguarded and bonded; pool gates and fencing self-closing or self-latching
Interior walls, ceilings and floors in good condition; all lights, switches and outlets work with cover plates
Handrails on all staircases, including the open side
Working stove and oven with anti-tip device; range hood or exhaust fan
Hot and cold water without leaks; drains flow freely
Smoke alarms on each floor; smoke and CO alarms within 10 feet of bedrooms (10-year battery recommended)
Electric panel covered with working, labeled breakers; water heater with relief pipe
Fire extinguisher (checklist says "210ABC") mounted on the kitchen wall no higher than 5 feet (2019 checklist)
