- Requirements
- Review of required permits along with the inspection
- Interior: structural members, interior surfaces, lead-based paint, stairs, railings (including attic and basement), handrails and guards
- Anti-tip bracket on the oven
- Exterior: paint, street numbers (Arabic numerals at least 3 inches high), foundation, walls, roof, gutters and downspouts, chimneys, porches, decks and stairs (sidewalks not inspected)
- Windows open and stay open; no broken glass; insect screens; deadbolt locks on doors; basement hatch and basement window guards
- Yard: sanitation, grading and drainage, weeds under 6 inches, no rodent harborage, no unregistered or junk vehicles, firewood stored off the ground, fences in good condition
- Plumbing fixtures, water heater, exhaust fan and drainage in working order
- Heat, HVAC, washer and dryer, flue and combustion air; electrical hazards, GFCI outlets where required, covers and switch plates, no open junction boxes
- Borough green trash carts; no rubbish, no infestation
- Means of egress, locked doors, emergency escape
- Smoke detectors on each level including basement and walk-up attic, outside each sleeping area within 10 feet, not in the kitchen; 10-year sealed lithium battery type
- CO detectors within 10 feet of sleeping areas
- One 2A:10BC fire extinguisher in the kitchen (not mounted), bought within a year with receipt or tagged (checklist dated January 2022)

Smoke and CO alarm certificate
Required- Requirements
- Smoke detectors over 10 years old will not pass
- Resale/rental smoke alarms must be 10-year sealed battery single station units (hardwired systems must work; interconnected and hardwired detectors are checked against the maker's life span)
- Smoke alarm on each level; smoke and CO detector outside each sleeping area; none in the kitchen
- Third floor or attic with walk-up steps needs a smoke and CO detector, used or not
- One ABC 2A:10B:C portable fire extinguisher in the kitchen, tagged by a fire service company within the year or with a receipt showing purchase within a year; need not be mounted (Fire Marshal page, undated; checklist January 2022)
