Requirements
  • Home must meet the property maintenance standards the Borough adopted (BOCA National Property Maintenance Code, 1993) and all Borough ordinances
  • Hard-wired, interconnected smoke detectors with battery backup on or near the ceiling of each level
  • Battery smoke detectors in each bedroom or sleeping area
  • Smoke detectors must be certified by the fire official or other authorized person before the certificate is issued
  • Any repairs needed for the certificate are the current owner's responsibility, even if the problem was caused by a previous owner
  • Under Ordinance 12-2026 (adopted Sept 2, 2026) the owner stays responsible until the certificate is issued, no matter what the sale contract, settlement or escrow agreement says; each day of violation after notice is a separate offense
