- House number visible from the street, at least 4 inches tall
- Sidewalks safe, no raised or deteriorated concrete
- Deteriorated asphalt driveway aprons must be replaced with concrete
- Handrails on steps with 3 or more risers (both sides if over 30 inches above grade); spindles no more than 4 inches apart
- Porches without perimeter railings must get railings
- Peeling or chipping exterior paint scraped and repainted; unpainted surfaces painted
- Broken window panes repaired
- Open splices or improperly installed exterior electrical fixtures corrected
- Gutters and downspouts connected and in place
- Any other hazardous condition the inspector finds must be corrected
- Separate sump pump inspection by the Superintendent of Public Works
- Separate smoke and CO detector inspection by the Regional Fire Prevention Alliance

Smoke and CO alarm certificate
Required- Requirements
- All smoke alarms (hardwired and battery) must be less than 10 years old; undated alarms must be replaced
- Each level needs either a hardwired alarm or a 10-year sealed battery alarm; hardwired alarms must be interconnected
- CO alarm within 10 feet of all sleeping areas if the home has a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace or garage; CO alarms must be less than 7 years old
- Monitored low-voltage fire alarm systems must be tested by an alarm contractor before the inspection, with a copy of the certification for the inspector
- House numbers: Arabic numerals at least 3 inches tall, contrasting, at least 60 inches above ground, visible from the street
- Secondary power source label (for example 'CAUTION MULTIPLE SOURCES OF POWER', not handwritten) within 18 inches of the main electrical panel and meter when the home has a generator, solar panels or battery storage
- Person over 18 must meet the inspector at the start of the time block
