Requirements
  • Inspection for compliance with the Borough Property Maintenance Code (Chapter 180), Land Use Ordinance, NJ Housing Code and NJ smoke detector regulations
  • House number clearly visible, at least 2 1/4 inches high and contrasting with the background
  • Pools and hot tubs: 48 inch fence or wall, self-closing self-latching gates opening out with release at least 54 inches high; zoning and construction permits on file (no CCO until permits are obtained and inspected)
  • Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in proper working order (smoke/CO certification done with the CCO)
  • Secondary power source caution label near the main panel and meter if the home has a generator, solar panels or battery storage
  • Survey attached if available

Timing
Minimum of 7 full business days notice required for inspections. The Enforcement Officer may waive the inspection and fee if the same premises was inspected within 60 days.

Smoke and CO alarm certificate

Requirements
  • Hardwired interconnected smoke alarms must be kept working and may not be converted to battery alarms
  • All smoke alarms less than 10 years old and UL listed; new battery alarms must be sealed 10-year units
  • At least one smoke alarm on every level including the basement and habitable attic, plus attics/crawl spaces containing fuel-burning equipment; alarms in the hallway within 10 feet of all bedroom doors
  • Carbon monoxide alarms on all levels with bedrooms, within 10 feet of all bedroom doors (hardwired, plug-in or battery)
  • Secondary power source caution label within 18 inches of the main electrical panel and meter, if applicable
  • Fire extinguishers are no longer required (Borough form)
