Requirements
  • Ten-year sealed battery or hardwired interconnected smoke alarms on each level and in the bedroom area, including basements and finished attics
  • Carbon monoxide detection in all sleeping areas, and wherever the home has a fuel-burning furnace or boiler or an attached garage
  • House numbers clearly visible from the street, securely fastened, weatherproof and on a contrasting background (a sign within 25 feet of the street if the house is set back more than 150 feet)
  • Sump pumps must discharge to a storm sewer or the street gutter line, never into the sanitary sewer
  • Homes with a generator, solar panels, battery storage or other secondary power source need a printed (not handwritten) label within 18 inches of the main electrical panel and the electric meter
  • All building permits must be closed (final inspections through the Building Department) before the certificate is issued
  • Buildings must comply with zoning for their area
