- Requirements
- Walks and driveways free of trip hazards
- Yard free of weeds and debris, grass cut
- House number at least 4 inches high, visible from the street
- Paint not peeling or cracking, no untreated wood exposed
- Service entry cable, gutters, downspouts, decks, steps and building exterior (foundation, walls, roof, glazing, basement hatch) in good condition; 3 or more risers need a graspable rail
- Floor coverings without trip hazards; walls and ceilings in good condition
- Smoke alarm within 10 feet of bedrooms and on every level including the basement; CO alarm within 10 feet of all sleeping rooms
- Fire extinguisher 2A:10B:C, 10 lb maximum, mounted in the kitchen, visible and readily accessible, top no more than 5 feet above the floor
- Graspable rails on all stairs including the basement
- Bathrooms have an operable window or a fan exhausting outside
- GFCI protection on outlets within 6 feet of a sink and in the garage, basement and outside
- A light fixture in every hallway, interior stairway, bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, boiler or furnace room and basement
- Plumbing fixtures working with hot and cold water and no visible leaks; water heater relief valve discharge within 6 inches of the floor
- Gas appliances vented with combustion air and clearances; dryer vented outside with metal flex duct; washer drains to the drain system
- Door locks meet code (no double keyed locks); at least one insect screen in every room

Smoke and CO alarm certificate
Required- Requirements
- State online self-certification, now named the Certificate of Smoke Alarm, Carbon Monoxide Alarm, and Secondary Power Source Identification Label Compliance (CSACMASPSIL): smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, and the secondary power source label for homes with solar, generators or batteries. The certificate name no longer includes the fire extinguisher, although the portal's checklist notice still refers to detectors and fire extinguishers
- The City's resale inspection form (2023) also checks smoke alarms, CO alarms and a 2A:10B:C extinguisher of 10 lb or less mounted to the kitchen wall, and notes 10-year sealed lithium battery smoke alarms have been required since 1/1/2019 (existing hardwired alarms excepted)
