- Inspection for compliance with the Township code and the Property Maintenance Code (Chapter 163)
- All violations and open permits must be closed before the certificate is issued
- The property record card is attached and checked during the inspection
- Access must be provided to the entire structure and property

Smoke and CO alarm certificate
Required- Requirements
- Smoke alarms on each level including the basement and outside each separate sleeping area; a photoelectric smoke alarm if a bedroom is within 10 feet of the kitchen
- Smoke alarms permanently mounted on the ceiling or within 12 inches of the ceiling on the wall
- Battery-only smoke alarms must be 10-year sealed battery units (UL 217); hardwired alarms may not be replaced with battery alarms
- Smoke alarms in service more than 10 years must be replaced
- Central station fire alarm systems must be tested before the inspection and a test report submitted, or the inspection fails
- CO alarm within 10 feet of each sleeping area when the home has a fuel-burning appliance or attached garage (battery, hardwired or plug-in)
- Secondary power source label (for example CAUTION: MULTIPLE SOURCES OF POWER, not handwritten) within 18 inches of the main electrical panel and meter
- Fire extinguishers are no longer required to pass inspection and are optional
