- Borough of Pompton Lakes Building Department (Construction Official), under Ordinance 91-30 (Borough Code Section 19-3)
- Requirements
- Pressure relief (blow-off) pipe on the water heater and boiler must extend down to 6 inches above the floor
- Grip-sized handrails on steps with 3 or more risers; no open stairways
- Guardrails at least 36 inches high, with no more than 4 inches between balusters, on porches and landings more than 30 inches above grade
- Visible house numbers on the house (not on doors)
- Secure, firm and sealed chimney connection from the water heater, furnace, boiler or stove
- No loose or unprotected electric wires or uncovered boxes
- Sidewalks maintained by the homeowner to Borough Code
- Separate smoke alarm, carbon monoxide alarm and fire extinguisher check by the Fire Prevention Bureau before resale
- Someone 18 or older must be present at the inspection

Smoke and CO alarm certificate
Required- Requirements
- The Borough's residential CCO form (2025) still lists a fire extinguisher with the smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm check by the Fire Prevention Bureau before resale or rental; the state removed the extinguisher from the state certificate in February 2025 (P.L.2025, c.19), so confirm with the Fire Prevention Bureau
