Smoke and CO alarm certificate
Required- Requirements
- Smoke alarms per the year the home was built (for example, before January 1977 battery alarms on all levels; March 2016 to present hardwired, interconnected alarms with battery backup on every level, near and in each sleeping area); battery-only alarms must be 10-year sealed, UL 217 listed, and no older than 10 years
- Basement battery smoke alarms within 10 feet of the base of the stairs
- Low voltage/central alarm systems need a full NFPA 72 inspection report from a certified contractor
- Carbon monoxide alarms (UL 2034) in the immediate vicinity of the sleeping areas, within 10 feet of sleeping room doors
- Portable fire extinguisher, ABC type rated at least 2A-10B:C and no more than 10 pounds, within 10 feet of the kitchen in the path of egress, mounted on the manufacturer's bracket, serviced and tagged within 12 months or with a recent purchase receipt (form says still required per municipal ordinance 11-1.8) (form still lists it)
- Secondary power source label (CAUTION: MULTIPLE SOURCES OF POWER) within 18 inches of the main electrical panel and meter, if the home has a generator, solar panels or battery storage
- A representative must be on site; snow and ice must be cleared; power must be on
