Requirements
  • Safe drinking water with adequate flow
  • Kitchen sink, toilet, bathroom sink, and tub or shower, all working with hot and cold water
  • Water heater working; hot water at least 120F
  • Approved garbage containers
  • Each room has 2 working outlets; no wiring hazards; bathroom light on a wall switch
  • Bathrooms ventilated (window or fan)
  • Heat working and able to keep 70F; space heaters vented
  • Safe, clear exits; basement bedrooms need proper egress
  • Foundation, roof, walls, windows and doors in good repair, no leaks or chronic dampness
  • Stairs, porches and balconies safe, with railings
  • No rodents or insects; window screens from May 1 to October 1
  • Yard free of trash; lawn, hedges and bushes trimmed; fences in good repair
  • Interior paint and wall coverings in good condition
  • Smoke detector on each level and in each bedroom; CO detector within 10 feet of sleeping areas
  • ABC fire extinguisher (2A:10B:C) mounted in or within 10 feet of the kitchen on the way to an exit

Timing
Allow 10 business days to get the initial inspection appointment and at least 5 business days for a re-inspection. Payment must be received before the inspection is scheduled.
