- Requirements
- Close out all open construction permits and any existing violations
- Property taxes and water and sewer bills paid up to date before the inspection can take place
- A fireplace chimney needs a certification of its status from a licensed company before the title transfer is approved
- Working smoke alarms (10-year sealed battery, hardwired or interconnected) in every bedroom, within 10 feet of sleeping areas and on each level
- Working carbon monoxide detector on every level and within 10 feet of sleeping areas
- All smoke and CO detectors replaced within the last 10 years
- Portable fire extinguisher mounted in an exit path: ABC rated, 2.5 to 10 lbs, not blocked or enclosed, replaced every 7 years
- GFCI outlets at every water source, including washing machine, bathrooms and exterior outlets
- Plumbing fixtures working with hot and cold water; heating equipment properly installed and working
- Exits safe and unobstructed; no double-keyed locks
- Floors, foundation, walls, ceilings, doors and windows clean and in good condition; no rodents or insects
- Window screens from May 15 to October 15; bathroom exhaust fan or operable window; all utilities on
- House number easily visible from the road; trash and recycling in approved lidded containers (45 gallons max)
- Roof, windows, siding, decks, porches, railings (handrail for 3 or more steps), fences, driveways, sidewalks, curbs and sheds in good repair
- Yard free of litter and debris; vegetation trimmed back from sidewalks and curbs

Smoke and CO alarm certificate
Required- Requirements
- 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms required where battery alarms are used; hardwired (A/C) alarms from original construction may not be replaced with battery alarms (Borough letter of January 15, 2022)
- Smoke alarms on each level including the basement, in each bedroom, and in the hallway within 10 feet outside each bedroom
- CO alarms in the immediate vicinity of sleeping areas in homes with fuel-burning devices or an attached garage
- Smoke and CO detectors replaced within the last 10 years (Borough housing inspection sheet, November 2024)
- Portable fire extinguisher still listed on the Borough's November 2024 inspection sheet: ABC rated, 2.5 to 10 lbs, mounted in an exit path, replaced every 7 years
