- Chimney certification by a licensed contractor if there is a wood-burning stove or fireplace
- House number in place and visible from the street
- Property free of debris and trash; exterior and interior in good repair (roof, siding, windows, paint, insect screens)
- Handrails and guardrails on stairs and decks with three or more risers
- Plumbing in working order and all utilities on (gas, electric, water, sewer)
- Cooking appliance working, with the anti-tip bracket installed
- GFCI outlets by all water sources, exterior outlets and washing machines
- Water heater pressure relief valve to code
- All open permits closed with final inspections
- Comply with the International Property Maintenance Code
- 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms in every bedroom, one within 10 feet of each bedroom in the hallway, and one on every level (AC-powered interconnected alarms do not need to be replaced)
- Carbon monoxide alarm on each level; plug-in or battery, 10-year model not required
- Fire extinguisher, 2-A:10-B:C type, 2.5 to 10 lbs, wall-mounted and visible within 10 feet of the kitchen, top no higher than 5 feet, near an exit path, not blocked, with the owner's manual
- Homes with a generator, solar panels or battery storage need a printed 'Caution: Multiple Sources of Power' label within 18 inches of the main electrical panel and meter (P.L.2025, c.19)
