Property tax bill
The bill for the yearly tax on your home or land. Your town collects it, but the money is split among your county, your school district and your town, plus any special district such as a fire district.
New Jersey example
Say your total property tax for the year is $8,000. You pay it all to your town, but it is made up of separate shares, for example $4,200 for your school district, $2,400 for your town and $1,400 for your county. Each share comes from that body's budget, spread over the assessed value of all taxable property.
