100% disabled veteran exemption
A full property tax exemption on the main home of an honorably discharged veteran certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as 100% permanently and totally disabled from active duty service. Unremarried surviving spouses or partners may qualify.
New Jersey example
Made-up example: a Toms River veteran has a VA letter certifying a service-connected disability from active duty as 100% permanent and total. He owns and lives in the home, so he files Form D.V.S.S.E. and his proofs with the local assessor. If denied, he can appeal to the County Board of Taxation by April 1 (January 15 in Burlington, Gloucester and Monmouth counties).
