- Requirements
- Visual inspection by the Construction Official (and subcode officials if needed) for hazardous conditions and outstanding violations of the Uniform Construction Code or Township ordinances
- A current zoning permit covering the premises must be issued before the CCO
- Smoke detectors must be installed (battery smoke detectors allowed in existing 1-2 family homes)
- Inspections may be waived for transfers between immediate family members, or when the home is bought to be demolished and a demolition permit has been applied for

Smoke and CO alarm certificate
Required- Requirements
- Smoke alarms on each level of the premises and outside each separate sleeping area, per NFPA 72
- Battery smoke alarms must be 10-year sealed units (ANSI/UL 217); hardwired alarms from original construction cannot be replaced with battery alarms, and hardwired interconnected alarms must stay that way
- Carbon monoxide alarm (UL 2034) in the immediate vicinity of the sleeping areas, if the home has a fuel-burning device or attached garage
- Warning label (for example 'CAUTION: MULTIPLE SOURCES OF POWER', not handwritten) within 18 inches of the main panel and meter if there is a permanent generator, solar panels or battery storage
- All construction permits must be closed with the Construction Department
- No portable fire extinguisher needed (the Bureau's regulations say it is no longer required)
