Smoke alarm, CO alarm and fire extinguisher certificate (CSACMAPFEC)
A certificate the owner must get from the local enforcing agency before a one- or two-family home is sold or leased. It shows the home has the required smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms where needed, and a portable fire extinguisher.
New Jersey example
Made-up example: before closing on a 1950s house, the seller applies to the local enforcing agency. The inspector checks for 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms (or hardwired ones), CO alarms because the house has a gas furnace, and an extinguisher within 10 feet of the kitchen. The certificate can't be transferred, and if the sale doesn't happen within six months, the seller must reapply.
