  • Smoke detectors on every level including the basement (not crawl spaces or unfinished attics); battery units must be 10-year sealed battery
  • Carbon monoxide detector no more than 10 feet outside the bedroom door (battery or electric)
  • No cracked window glass or broken window seals (cloudy panes)
  • Anti-tip bracket installed for the stove
  • No leaking pipes or faucets
  • No exposed wiring (uncovered junction boxes, switches, outlets, wire nuts)
  • Handrails on all stairways of four or more steps
  • No peeling paint
  • Furnace flue sealed at the chimney
  • Pools need an enclosure with self-closing, self-latching gates that swing away from the pool
  • No garbage disposal under the kitchen sink when the home is on public sewer
  • Private well: Private Well Testing Act water test results
  • Septic: report on the State Onsite System Inspection Form by a licensed septic inspector
  • If the home will be rented, the owner must first register as a landlord with the Clerk's Office
