Resale Housing Certificate of Occupancy (Resale Housing Inspection) · West Deptford Township Division of Housing, under a shared services agreement with the Borough

  • Home must meet the housing standards enforced by the West Deptford Division of Housing (NJ State Housing Code and 2018 International Property Maintenance Code)
  • All utilities on and working at the inspection
  • All open construction permits closed before the CO is issued
  • Vacant homes: a lock box is allowed; otherwise the owner or agent must meet the inspector
  • A fire inspection of smoke and CO alarms is required with every resale application (see fire certificate)

Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required

  • Smoke alarm on every level, less than 10 years old and working
  • Basement alarm at the bottom of the stairwell on the ceiling, not between joists
  • Hallway smoke alarms within 10 feet of all bedroom doors
  • Hardwired smoke alarms cannot be replaced with battery alarms
  • CO alarms in the hallway within 10 feet of all bedroom doors, less than 7 years old and working
  • House numbers at least 4 inches high, contrasting color, permanently attached and visible from the street; light post or mailbox numbers not accepted
