- Requirements
- Construction Official visits the home to verify the required square inches of flood venting
- Flood vents: at least one square inch of net open area per square foot of enclosed area (non-engineered vents), or one engineered inch per square foot for engineered vents
- Required vents and crawl space access door(s) must be located; if they fall short, the owner is given a set number of days to meet the City venting requirements

Smoke and CO alarm certificate
Required- Requirements
- Owner or authorized representative does the inspection and signs a notarized self-certification; no inspector visit for the alarms
- Smoke detector on each level including basements (not attic or crawl space), and a smoke detector and CO alarm outside each separate sleeping area, within ten feet of it
- Homes built after January 1977: AC powered and/or interconnected smoke alarms must be kept in working order; a ten year sealed battery smoke detector is required if detectors are not hard wired
- CO alarm required when the home has fuel-burning appliances, a fireplace or wood/coal stove, or an attached garage; battery alarms are acceptable
- City form still lists a portable fire extinguisher: minimum rating 2A-10B:C, no more than 10 pounds, within ten feet of the kitchen area, on its bracket, top no more than 5 feet above the floor, near an exit (seasonal summer units exempt)
