- Power to the house must be on before scheduling, or an approved Special Circumstance form (extra fee, plus a follow-up inspection or electrician letter before anyone moves in)
- Smoke alarm on every level within 15 feet of the bedrooms
- Smoke alarms older than 10 years must be replaced before inspection
- Hardwired smoke alarms must stay and cannot be replaced with battery alarms
- CO alarm in the hallway within 10 feet of all bedroom doors; CO alarms older than 7 years must be replaced; not plugged into switched outlets or near floor molding
- Fire extinguisher rated 2A10BC (5 lbs), brand new or dated/tagged for the current year, mounted visibly within 10 feet of the kitchen or toward an exit from the kitchen
