  • Districts 1, 2, 4 and 5: CO alarms must be less than 7 years old
  • Districts 1, 4 and 5: smoke alarms older than 10 years not accepted; battery alarms must be 10-year sealed (hardwired exempt); hardwired alarms cannot be replaced with battery alarms
  • Basement smoke alarm at the bottom of the stairwell on the ceiling (not between joists); hallway alarms within 10 feet of all bedroom doors
  • House numbers at least 4 inches high, contrasting color, permanently on the house and visible from the street (mailbox or light post numbers not accepted)
  • Homes with a secondary power source (solar, generator, battery storage) need a non-handwritten 'CAUTION: MULTIPLE SOURCES OF POWER' label within 18 inches of the main electrical panel and the electric meter
  • District 5 checklist: alarm type follows the year the house was built (for example 1991 to present: hardwired interconnected alarms with battery backup on every level and in each bedroom)
  • Current 2025-2026 district forms do not list a fire extinguisher (District 6's 2026 affidavit title still says 'Portable Fire Extinguisher' but its checklist has no extinguisher item)
