Certificate of Occupancy Required
Certificate of Continued Occupancy (CCO) · Township of Washington Building Department (Chief Construction Official)
- General inspection of the visible parts of the principal building: no apparent zoning, construction or health violations and no open permits
- If violations cannot be fixed before closing, the applicant certifies they will be cured by a set date and gets a temporary certificate; $100 per day fine if not cured by then
- Not required if the principal building will not be occupied (submit a certification to the Construction Official)
- Smoke/CO/fire extinguisher certificate is a separate inspection (see fire certificate)

Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required
- 2A:10BC fire extinguisher mounted on the kitchen wall, within 10 feet of the kitchen and not behind any door (Township page still lists it)
- At least one smoke detector on each level of the home
- One carbon monoxide detector within 10 feet of any bedroom (plug-in or battery)
