Certificate of Occupancy Required
Certificate of Continued Occupancy (CCO) · Borough of Moonachie Building Department (Construction Official)
- Seller must get a Certificate of Continued Occupancy from the Construction Official on every transfer of a one to four family home
- The certificate confirms the home may keep its current use and that the use is permitted in the zone (or is a valid nonconforming use or approved by variance)
- Inspection of the premises by the Construction Official before the certificate is issued
- Use the Borough's Residential certificate application (UCC F270) and check Certificate of Continued Occupancy

Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required
- Smoke detector on every floor of the home, including basements, hallways and all habitable floors
- Hallways more than 20 feet long need two detectors
- Carbon monoxide alarm (the form records the number present)
- The form also asks about sump pumps and open permits
