Notice of assessment
A yearly notice, often a postcard, that your assessor mails to show your property's current assessment and the previous year's taxes. It must also tell you how to appeal.
New Jersey example
Outside Burlington, Gloucester and Monmouth counties, the assessor must mail it before February 1. Those three counties use an alternate calendar, with notices due by November 15 of the year before. The day your town finishes mailing these notices can push your appeal deadline later. If your assessment changes afterward, you get a new notice and have 45 days from its issue date to appeal.
