County equalization table
A yearly county table that converts each town's total assessed value into true value, using its average assessment ratio. It lets the county split county taxes fairly among towns that assess at different levels.
New Jersey example
Made-up numbers: Town A has $1 billion in assessments at a 50% ratio, so its true value is $2 billion. Town B has $1.5 billion at 100%, so $1.5 billion. In a two-town county, Town A would carry about 57% of the county tax even though its assessments are lower. A town can appeal the table to the Tax Court within 45 days.
