Westfield Town doesn’t require a resale Certificate of Occupancy.

Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required

  • Ten-year sealed battery smoke alarms; A/C-powered alarms from original construction may not be replaced with battery alarms
  • Smoke detectors on every level (basement, first floor, second floor, excluding crawl spaces and unfinished attics) and outside sleeping areas
  • CO detectors outside each sleeping area in the hallway; two are needed if bedrooms are on different levels or wings; plug-in CO detectors are allowed
  • Homes with a central station fire alarm need a letter from the monitoring company stating the system works
  • Open construction permits must be closed before the certificate is issued
  • Fire extinguisher no longer required as of March 14, 2025
