Certificate of Compliance (Borough Code Section 106-25) · Garwood Fire Department, Bureau of Fire Prevention and Code Enforcement

  • Smoke alarm on each level including the basement (not unfinished attics or crawl spaces), near the stairs, and within 10 feet of each bedroom; habitable attics need one
  • Carbon monoxide alarm outside each separate sleeping area within 10 feet of bedrooms if the home has a fuel-burning appliance or an attached garage
  • All smoke and CO alarms working; all alarms less than 10 years old; battery smoke alarms must be 10-year sealed units (since January 1, 2019)
  • AC powered or interconnected alarms installed after January 1977 must be kept working
  • The existing use must be a proper use in the zone (zoning officer certification if the use is nonconforming or by variance)
  • No roof drain, sump pump or other stormwater may drain into the Borough sanitary sewer; any such connection must be moved to the storm system before the certificate is issued
  • No open building permits; final inspections must be scheduled through the Building Department
