Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required
- Smoke alarm on every level and within 10 feet of every bedroom door; alarms must be less than 10 years old
- Battery-only smoke alarms must be 10-year sealed units; electric alarms may not be replaced with battery alarms, and the required type depends on when the house was built or renovated
- Carbon monoxide alarm (UL 2034) in the hallway within 10 feet of every bedroom door on sleeping levels, unless the home has no fuel-burning appliances or attached garage
- Homes with a residential sprinkler system need a satisfactory inspection report from a NJ licensed contractor
- Homes with a secondary power source (generator, solar, battery storage) need 'CAUTION: MULTIPLE SOURCES OF POWER' labels within 18 inches of the main panel and electric meter
- No fire extinguisher is listed on the Township's application or guide
