Continuing Certificate of Occupancy (Residential CO) · Housing Official (Housing/Code Enforcement)
- 10-year sealed battery smoke detectors in each bedroom, within 10 feet of bedroom areas and the kitchen, and at least one per level including the basement and walk-up attic
- CO detectors within 10 feet of bedroom areas and kitchens, at least one per level including basements and walk-up attics
- Fire extinguisher rated 1A:10BC or 2A:10BC, no more than 10 pounds, visibly mounted in the kitchen or within 10 feet of it toward an exit
- 4-inch house letters and numbers visible from the street; tree limbs cut back at least 10 feet from the roof line
- Handrails on stairways and stoops with 3 or more steps; guardrails on porches, balconies, raised floors and decks 30 inches or higher, spindles no more than 4 inches apart
- No broken windows or doors, no holes in walls or ceilings, no structural or exterior damage, no leaking roof
- Switch plates and outlet covers in place, GFI outlets within 3 feet of kitchen and bathroom sinks, light fixtures in place with no bare wires, secure covered breaker panel
- Working range with anti-tip device and other appliances working; working heat (and air conditioning if present)
- Hot and cold running water without leaks and flushing toilets; bathroom window or exhaust fan vented outside
- Water heater relief valve extension within 6 inches of the floor (not closer than 2 inches); electric service wire and meter sound
- No double-cylinder deadbolts on exterior doors; fire-rated door between an attached garage and the house
- Sidewalks and driveways in good order without cracks or raised areas; pools, spas and hot tubs clean with proper security fencing
- All code violations abated, all open construction permits closed, no rubbish or debris, all utilities on at the inspection
- No more than 2 occupants per bedroom
- Resale homes need a heater and chimney certification from a qualified contractor
