Certificate of Occupancy Required
Housing Certificate of Occupancy (HCO) · Mannington Township Zoning/Housing Department (Housing Officer)
- A new certificate is needed at every change of occupancy; no one may move in or place personal items in the home until inspections are passed
- Application must list all occupants (name, age, gender) before the certificate is issued
- Home must meet the Township housing chapter, local plumbing, building, electrical, fire, zoning, health and safety ordinances, and the New Jersey state housing standards
- Housing Officer checklist (2016): septic certification and water test
- Checklist: GFCI outlets in kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, garage and outside
- Checklist: handrail to the basement and on porch and deck steps; emergency heater switch at the top of the stairs

- Checklist: chimney certification (visual inspection by a heating contractor or chimney sweep); heater serviced and inspected
- Checklist: roof, siding, windows, doors and screens in repair; house numbered; trash, debris and abandoned vehicles removed
- Checklist: fire-resistant door and walls between an attached garage and the house
