• Address clearly marked on the house and mailbox
• Smoke detector on every level and within 10 feet of sleeping areas (a room with a door counts as a bedroom)
• Carbon monoxide detector within 10 feet of sleeping areas
• Portable fire extinguisher (2 1/2 to 10 pound ABC) mounted within 10 feet of the kitchen near an exit, top no higher than 5 feet (still listed on the Borough checklist)
• Copy of a survey of the property
• Clean private well test (within six months on the single family checklist) if not on public water, or the certificate will not be issued
• Check for open permits and illegal construction
• Check for illegal two family or multiple family use
• Gas-fired appliance vents installed properly
• All meters installed (gas, electric, water)
• Pools fenced with working gates; fences 4 feet high, 5 feet around in-ground pools

Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required

• Smoke detector on each level including basements (not unfinished attics or crawl spaces), outside each sleeping area and within 10 feet of bedrooms
• Carbon monoxide alarm outside each sleeping area, within 10 feet of bedrooms
• The Borough's certification form says detectors need not be interconnected and battery alarms are acceptable, but AC powered or interconnected alarms in homes built after January 1977 must be kept working
• The Borough sale checklists still list a mounted 2 1/2 to 10 pound ABC portable fire extinguisher within 10 feet of the kitchen
