Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required

• Smoke alarms on each floor, including the basement and finished attics, within 10 feet of all bedrooms, and not in the stairway
• Ceiling mounting at least 4 inches from the wall, or wall mounting with the top 4 to 12 inches below the ceiling's highest point
• Homes built with electric interconnected smoke alarms must keep them; they cannot be replaced with battery units
• CO alarms within 10 feet of all bedrooms
• Fire extinguisher rated 2A:10BC, no more than 10 pounds, mounted within 10 feet of the kitchen and visible from it (not in a pantry or laundry room); the Borough sheet prints its height limit as 'no higher than 5" from the floor'; the checklist (revised 4/2021) predates P.L.2025, c.19, which removed the extinguisher from the state requirement, and the packet still includes a 2005 DCA extinguisher memo
