Certificate of Occupancy Required

Resale Certificate (Existing Structure Inspection); Transfer Certificate if the home cannot pass · Borough Office of Code Enforcement

  • All construction (UCC) permits closed and all property maintenance violations resolved before the inspection is scheduled
  • Chimney certification from a licensed chimney sweep or HVAC contractor
  • Heating system certification from a licensed HVAC contractor or plumber
  • Yard kept up, with no overgrown grass or weeds and no debris or trash
  • Reflective house numbers at least 2 inches tall on the front of the house
  • Secure handrails on every staircase of 4 or more steps
  • Plumbing working with water flowing from each faucet; electricity, gas and water on
  • Outlets working, with GFI outlets in bathrooms, kitchen and outdoors
  • Anti-tip device on range stoves
  • Smoke detectors in all bedrooms and in the hall outside the bedrooms, plus at least one smoke detector and one CO detector on each level
  • 2A-10BC fire extinguisher mounted within 10 feet of the kitchen (Borough ordinance and August 2024 checklist)
  • Interior and exterior doors open and close properly, exterior doors lock, windows lock and stay open when raised
