- House numbers permanently attached, 4 inches tall
- Deadbolts may not need a key on the inside
- 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms (or hardwired alarms) on every floor, including the basement, and outside each sleeping area
- Carbon monoxide alarms within 10 feet of every bedroom
- Anti-tip device on the range
- Water heater and boiler relief valves piped down to 6 inches from the floor
- Metal dryer vent that ends outside
- Hot water on the left, cold on the right; plumbing in good shape with no open sewer lines
- Covers on all switches, outlets, junction boxes and panels, no gaps in the panel, and the electric service in good condition
- No broken windows, missing siding, debris or uncut grass; chimneys and furnaces capped and vented; no holes in walls, floors or doors
- Handrails and guardrails on open sides of decks and stairs 30 inches or more above grade; bulkhead maintained
- Homes with a generator, solar or battery system need a 'Caution: MULTIPLE SOURCES OF POWER' label within 18 inches of the main panel and the meter
