Denville Township doesn’t require a resale Certificate of Occupancy.

Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required

  • Smoke alarm on each level including basements (not attic or crawl space) and outside each separate sleeping area within 10 feet of bedrooms
  • 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms (ANSI/UL 217) where battery alarms are used; AC alarms from construction or rehabilitation cannot be replaced with battery alarms, and AC alarms more than 10 years old must be replaced before the inspection
  • CO alarm in the immediate vicinity of sleeping areas (UL 2034, NFPA 720) unless the home has no fuel-burning device or attached garage
  • Low-voltage alarm systems: monitoring contact, account and password, plus certification from an alarm technician
  • Portable fire extinguisher 2A-10B:C, no more than 10 pounds, serviced and tagged within 12 months or with a recent purchase receipt; owner's manual left for the new occupant (form still lists it)
  • Secondary power source label ("Caution: Multiple Sources Of Power") within 18 inches of the main panel and the meter, if the home has a generator, solar panels or battery storage
