Housing Certification (formerly Certificate of Continued Occupancy, CCO) · Manalapan Township Construction Code Department, Office of Housing

• Housing inspection of the home against the Township checklist (6 inch house numbers, steps, railings, window screens, doors, heating, roof, stove anti-tip device, plumbing, electrical covers, no extension cords, clean yard, pool fence code compliant)
• All existing open permits must be closed out before the inspection
• Smoke and carbon monoxide certification, inspected at the same visit (see fire certificate)
• Fire extinguisher, 2A-10BC type, no larger than 10 lbs, under the kitchen sink or within 10 feet of the kitchen (form still lists it)
• Homes with well and septic systems need Health Department approval before the certification is issued

Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required

• Working smoke detectors on each level, including basements and crawl spaces, and within 10 feet of any sleeping area
• Original systems must be kept (interconnected systems cannot be replaced with stand-alone battery units); battery smoke alarms must have a ten-year sealed battery
• At least one carbon monoxide detector in the vicinity of all sleeping areas, more if bedrooms are on more than one level; leave the instruction booklet for the new owner
