Housing Certificate of Occupancy (Resale Inspection) · Housing Division, Department of Code Enforcement
- Smoke alarms tested; interconnected alarms must all sound together; smoke alarms replaced every 10 years (NFPA 72)
- Smoke alarms at least 3 feet from air vents or bathrooms with a tub or shower
- CO alarms near all sleeping areas in homes with fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces or attached garages
- Permanent 'CAUTION: MULTIPLE SOURCES OF POWER' label within 18 inches of the main panel and meter if the home has a generator, solar panels, battery storage or other secondary power
- GFCI outlets tested (bathrooms, kitchens, garages, basements, outside); defective ones replaced
- Fireplace or wood stove over 3 years old needs a Level 2 (NFPA 211) safety certification before the certificate is issued
- Oil or gas furnace must be inspected and certified safe by a heating professional before the certificate is issued
- Bath exhaust fans working and free of lint; kitchen range hood filter clean and working
- Electric power on for the inspection; an adult (18+) must be present (no lock box access)
- All Building Division permits must be inspected and closed
