• All utilities on and working at the inspection
• All open construction permits closed before the CO is issued
• Vacant homes: a lock box is allowed; otherwise the owner or agent must meet the inspector

Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required

• Ten-year sealed battery smoke alarms (UL 217); hardwired alarms from original construction cannot be replaced with battery alarms
• Smoke alarm on every level; basement alarm at the bottom of the stairwell on the ceiling, not between joists
• Hallway smoke alarms within 10 feet of all bedroom doors
• No smoke alarms in kitchens, bathrooms, near forced air ducts or furnaces, in the dead-air space where ceiling meets wall, near ceiling fans, in crawl spaces or attics
• CO alarms in the hallway within 10 feet of all bedroom doors, under 7 years old and working; plug-in, battery or hardwired are fine, but not in switched outlets or outlets at floor molding
• House numbers: numerals at least 4 inches high, contrasting color, permanently attached and visible from the street; light post or mailbox numbers not accepted
