Certificate of Occupancy (C/O inspection) · Elk Township Construction Office, Housing Official

• Well water: passing test by an NJDEP certified lab (Private Well Testing Act), or County Health letter for a new well
• Septic: Gloucester County Health Dept letter of Compliance-No Further Action, or License to Operate for a new system
• Cesspools, privies and outhouses must be replaced with a septic system before transfer (limited exceptions)
• Smoke detector in each bedroom and on every level (10 year sealed device)
• Smoke and CO detectors outside bedrooms, within 10 feet of bedrooms
• General condition of interior, exterior, grounds and accessory buildings (sheds, barns, garages)
• Roofing, siding, trim, window glass, screens and doors
• Pipes and traps under sinks; heater and water heater
• Chimney condition; chimney certification for wood fireplaces, wood stoves or pellet stoves
• GFCI outlets within 6 feet of water in kitchens, bathrooms and laundry
• 4 inch reflective house numbers
• Township-issued trash and recycling containers on the premises
• No open construction permits
