Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required

  • 10-year sealed battery smoke alarm on every level, or hardwired as required; basement alarm at the bottom of the stairwell on the ceiling
  • Smoke alarms within 10 feet of all bedroom doors and a smoke alarm in every bedroom on the ceiling
  • Hardwired smoke alarms cannot be replaced with battery alarms; existing hardwired or monitored systems kept to original level
  • Smoke and CO alarms less than 10 years old, UL listed and working
  • Carbon monoxide alarms in hallways within 10 feet of all bedrooms and sleeping areas; plug-in, battery or hardwired accepted (not in switched outlets)
  • Secondary power source label 'CAUTION: Multiple Power Sources' by the electrical panel and meter if the home has solar, a generator, battery storage or other secondary power; label may not be handwritten (ANSI Z535.4)
  • House numbers at least 4 inches high, contrasting color, permanently fixed to the house and visible from the street (light post or mailbox numbers not accepted)
