Certificate of Occupancy Required
Certificate of Continued Use and Occupancy (CCU) · Township of Maplewood Building Department (Construction Official)
- Inspection of the premises by the Construction Official or his representative
- All open permits must be closed
- A smoke certificate (smoke/CO certificate from the Fire Department) must be issued first
- Full payment of fees
- Current and prospective owners must be listed as individuals (not an LLC or other entity); the new owner's driver's license number is required
- Estate or trust sellers must show an original court document with a raised seal appointing the executor, trustee or power of attorney
- The seller must personally sign a receipt for the certificate
- If violations are found, the owner fixes them, or for sales only the buyer may submit a notarized letter accepting responsibility for the violations

Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required
- Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms inspected by the Maplewood Fire Department before the home is sold, leased or reoccupied
- Portable fire extinguishers are no longer required in Maplewood for this certificate
- Payment to the fire inspector at the inspection (cash, check or money order only)
