Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required
- Smoke detector on each level: basement at the bottom of the stairs, and each floor at the stairs or within 10 feet of bedrooms; attic not required
- Battery smoke detectors must be 10-year sealed units; homes built with hardwired interconnected detectors cannot substitute battery or wireless units
- Carbon monoxide detector(s) within 10 feet of all bedroom areas; battery, hardwired or plug-in allowed
- All detectors UL listed and mounted with screws (no tape, Velcro, nails or picture hooks), except plug-in CO units
- One ABC fire extinguisher, 2A:10B:C or greater, wall mounted about 5 feet off the floor in a visible spot in or within 10 feet of the kitchen, not in a cabinet or behind a door; one per kitchen (form still lists it)
