  • 2A-10B:C fire extinguisher under 10 lbs, mounted within 10 ft of kitchen, tagged with current receipt
  • House numbers at least 4 inches, contrasting, fixed to the house and visible from the street
  • Handrails on 3 or more risers; guardrails on porches/decks 30 inches or higher
  • GFCI within 6 ft of water; no bare-wire fixtures
  • Heat, appliances (anti-tip on range), hot and cold water and toilets working
  • Water heater relief valve discharge pipe 2 to 6 inches from floor
  • Bathroom window or exhaust fan
  • No holes, flaking paint or water stains on walls, ceilings, floors; no roof leaks
  • Yard free of trash, debris and junk vehicles; all code violations abated
  • Utilities on at time of inspection

Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required

  • 10-year sealed battery smoke alarm on every level; hardwired alarms cannot be replaced with battery alarms
  • Basement alarm at bottom of stairwell on the ceiling, not between joists
  • Bedroom hallway smoke alarms within 10 feet of all bedroom doors
  • Smoke and CO alarms less than 10 years old and working
  • CO alarm in hallway within 10 feet of all bedrooms; not in switched outlets
  • Low-voltage alarm systems must be tested by an alarm contractor before the inspection, with the certificate shown to the inspector
  • House numbers at least 4 inches, contrasting, fixed to the house, visible from the street or 50 feet (Borough Ordinance No. 757)
  • Homes with a secondary power source (solar, generator, battery storage) need a permanent printed label at the main panel and meter, e.g. "Caution: Multiple Sources of Power"
